What this does
Builds placeholder text from a fixed word list, shaped into words, sentences or paragraphs. Three word lists are available, the count is yours to set, and every press of Generate reshuffles the output. It all happens in the page — no request is made for the text.
How do I generate a set number of paragraphs?
- Leave Unit on Paragraphs (or switch to Sentences or Words).
- Type a count between 1 and 200. Anything outside that is clamped.
- The output regenerates as you change any control — the Generate button is only for rerolling the same settings.
- Press Copy to put the whole block on the clipboard.
Paragraphs come out separated by a blank line, so pasting into Markdown, a CMS field or a design tool keeps the breaks intact.
How long is a generated sentence?
Each sentence is 8 to 18 words, capitalised, and ends in a full stop — with a roughly 1-in-20 chance of a question mark and the same chance of an exclamation mark instead. Longer sentences sometimes get a comma dropped in the middle. Paragraphs are 3 to 7 of those sentences. The result is filler with realistic-looking rag and line-break behaviour rather than a uniform grey block.
Which flavour should I pick?
- Classic lorem — the familiar pseudo-Latin vocabulary: dolor, consectetur, incididunt, laborum. Nobody tries to read it, which is the point.
- Hipster — artisan, selvage, cronut, pour-over. Useful when a client keeps asking what the Latin means.
- Plain English — ordinary English words, so the sample reads at roughly the density of real copy. Best for judging line length and hyphenation.
Does the text always start with "Lorem ipsum"?
Only if you want it to. The Start with "Lorem ipsum" checkbox is on by default and pins this opening in front of the generated text:
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ullamco
veniam est aliqua nostrud dolore sit anim consequat cillum... The option only applies to the classic flavour — tick it with Hipster or Plain English selected and it is ignored, since a Latin opener in front of English filler looks like a mistake.
Why not just type real copy?
Because reviewers read whatever words are in front of them. Placeholder
text keeps a layout review about column width, leading and hierarchy. Just
remember to strip it before launch — a stray consectetur in
production is the classic way to end up in someone's screenshot thread.
Search your templates for lorem as a release check.
How much text did I actually get?
Paste the result into word count for words, characters and reading time — handy when you are filling a field with a known character limit. Need other kinds of throwaway data instead? Use UUID generator for identifiers, password generator for random strings, and case converter if the filler needs to be title case or slug-shaped.
