What this does
Two calculations on the same page. Count between tells you how many working days fall between two dates; Add / subtract takes a start date and a number of working days and tells you which date you land on. Both skip weekends, and both skip any holidays you paste in. It is the browser version of a spreadsheet's NETWORKDAYS and WORKDAY, with no spreadsheet — everything is computed locally, so it runs offline and your dates are never uploaded.
How do I count business days between two dates?
Three fields, and the total updates as you edit any of them:
- Stay on the Count between tab and set the From and To dates; they start filled in a month apart.
- Optionally paste holidays into the box below, one per line as
yyyy-mm-dd. - Read the total. The line underneath restates the rule being applied and how many holidays it recognised, which is the quickest way to spot a mistyped date — a line it cannot read is simply not matched.
The order of the two dates does not matter; the count is the same either way.
Which days count as the weekend?
Saturday and Sunday. That is fixed in this tool, so it suits the Monday to Friday week used across North America, Europe and most of Asia. If your working week is different — a Sunday to Thursday week, or a six-day week — the workaround is to list the extra non-working dates in the holidays box, or count the calendar span with date difference and adjust from there.
Are the start and end dates both included?
Yes. The count is inclusive at both ends, matching NETWORKDAYS: Monday to Friday of the same week is 5 working days, not 4, and a single weekday compared with itself is 1. Weekend endpoints simply do not add anything — a Saturday to the following Friday still counts 5. Only the date part is used; times are ignored, which is why these fields are date pickers rather than the date-and-time pickers on the date difference tool.
Can I add public holidays?
Yes, and you have to — nothing is assumed for you, because public holidays
differ by country, by state and often by employer. Paste them into the
holidays box one per line in yyyy-mm-dd form, for example
2026-12-25. The same list applies to both modes. Most
government and HR calendars publish holiday dates as iCal or CSV, so you
can usually copy a year's worth in one go. A holiday that falls on a
weekend changes nothing, since that day was already excluded.
How does adding working days to a date work?
Switch to Add / subtract, set a start date and a number. The tool steps forward one day at a time and only decrements the counter on a working day, so the answer is always a weekday that is not on your holiday list. A negative number counts backwards — useful for "five business days before the deadline". The start date itself is never counted, which is the convention behind phrases like "ships in 3 business days": order Monday, arrive Thursday. Starting from a weekend works too, and entering zero simply returns the start date unchanged.
